Clean swaps
How we upgrade the restaurant version with better ingredients.
- Canola or vegetable oil (typical restaurant) → Avocado oil — Avoids industrial seed oils and provides a higher smoke point.
- Hoisin sauce (contains high fructose corn syrup) → Coconut aminos and raw honey — Eliminates processed sugars and chemical preservatives.
- Soy sauce (often contains wheat/fillers) → Coconut aminos — Provides a cleaner, gluten-free savory flavor without additives.
Instructions
- Wash and pat dry the lettuce leaves, then separate into individual cups.
- Heat the avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground chicken, garlic, and ginger to the skillet.
- Break up the meat with a spatula and cook until browned and no longer pink (about 5-7 minutes).
- Pour in the coconut aminos and honey; stir well and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Fold in the scallions and toasted sesame seeds, then remove from heat.
- Spoon the chicken mixture into the lettuce leaves and serve immediately.
FAQ
Is this recipe gluten-free?
Yes, because we substituted traditional soy sauce with coconut aminos, which are naturally gluten-free.
Can I make this meatless?
