Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Clean swaps

How we upgrade the restaurant version with better ingredients.

  • ground beef → grass-fed organic ground beef — Conventional beef can contain growth hormones and antibiotics; grass-fed is a cleaner, nutrient-dense alternative.
  • cans (15 oz each) kidney beans → organic canned kidney beans — Ensures the legumes were grown without synthetic pesticides and are not GMO.
  • beef broth → organic bone broth or homemade beef stock — Commercial broths often contain hidden sugars, MSG, and excessive sodium levels.

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large pot over medium-high heat until fully cooked.
  2. Drain any excess fat from the pot and add the diced onion and chopped jalapeno.
  3. Sauté the vegetables for 5 minutes until softened, then stir in the minced garlic.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30-40 minutes.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper to taste before serving hot.
