Clean swaps
How we upgrade the restaurant version with better ingredients.
- ground beef → grass-fed organic ground beef — Conventional beef can contain growth hormones and antibiotics; grass-fed is a cleaner, nutrient-dense alternative.
- cans (15 oz each) kidney beans → organic canned kidney beans — Ensures the legumes were grown without synthetic pesticides and are not GMO.
- beef broth → organic bone broth or homemade beef stock — Commercial broths often contain hidden sugars, MSG, and excessive sodium levels.
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a large pot over medium-high heat until fully cooked.
- Drain any excess fat from the pot and add the diced onion and chopped jalapeno.
- Sauté the vegetables for 5 minutes until softened, then stir in the minced garlic.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30-40 minutes.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste before serving hot.
