Clean swaps

How we upgrade the restaurant version with better ingredients.

  • Granulated and Brown Sugar → Organic Coconut Sugar — Eliminates highly refined sugars in favor of a minimally processed alternative with a lower glycemic index.
  • Plain Flour → Stone-ground Spelt or Whole Wheat Flour — Adds essential nutrients and fiber while avoiding the bleaching agents and additives found in standard white flour.
  • Standard Butter → Grass-fed Butter — Provides a superior Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio and higher levels of Vitamin K2 compared to conventional dairy butter.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 190C (375F) and lightly grease a medium-sized baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into chunky pieces. Place them in the baking dish.
  3. Mix the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice into the apples and toss to coat evenly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Add the cubed butter to the dry mixture and rub it in with your fingertips until it forms a coarse, crumbly texture.
  6. Spread the crumble topping evenly over the top of the apple mixture without pressing it down too firmly.
  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Serve warm with a drizzle of custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
