Clean swaps
How we upgrade the restaurant version with better ingredients.
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese → Organic Buffalo Mozzarella — Commercial mozzarella often contains synthetic emulsifiers and preservatives; organic buffalo mozzarella provides a cleaner, authentic flavor.
- 1 tsp balsamic glaze → Authentic reduced balsamic vinegar — Many store-bought glazes contain high fructose corn syrup and thickeners instead of pure vinegar reduction.
- 3 large ripe tomatoes → Organic Heirloom tomatoes — Ensures non-GMO seeds and higher nutrient density compared to standard commercial varieties.
Instructions
- Wash and slice the tomatoes into thick rounds.
- Slice the mozzarella cheese into discs of similar thickness to the tomatoes.
- Arrange tomato and mozzarella slices alternately on a large platter, overlapping slightly.
- Tuck fresh basil leaves between each tomato and mozzarella layer.
- Drizzle the salad generously with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze.
- Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and cracked black pepper before serving immediately.
